Workshop for intermediate musicians - March 14, 21, 28, 2025.
Melodic Mentorship: A Course for Intermediate Musicians
Are you ready to elevate your musical journey?
This three-week course in March 2025 is designed for intermediate musicians seeking to increase their enjoyment of making music by deepening their understanding of music fundamentals, musical communication, and cultivate skills for authentic musical collaboration.
We will work on how to play; how to take solos, where to fill in, how to back others up effectively. We'll work on basic live sound fundamentals with opportunities to practice so you feel at home onstage, and we will have an overview of musical terms and basic theory so you never feel lost in conversation when arranging a song.
We will learn ways to calm our nervous system to let music flow more freely through us, enabling us to enjoy the experience of making music while playing, as well as a look at postural issues that may be holding a player back.
You'll connect with the other participants in an authentic way and have a list of resources to take you onwards in your musical journey.
Who: You, your instructors and up to 9 other musicians
What: 3-hour sessions x 3 weeks
When: March 14, 21, 28, 2025.

Transition between basic chords smoothly (on instruments that can chord, long notes on melodic instruments)

To secure their spot, potential students must submit a video of themselves playing two contrasting songs with the purpose of showing me where they are at in their musical journey; what they struggle with. They will also be able to write out their personal goals so I can work that into the curriculum and pair people appropriately for musical exercises.
YOUR INSTRUCTORS
TANIA ELIZABETH has spent the past two decades shaping the arc of modern-day roots music; as fiddle player for the Avett Brothers, Grammy and Juno-winning founder of The Duhks, accompanist for Mary Gauthier and as a session player.
Having started on the violin at age 3, it was always obvious to her that this was her path. She studied both classical and fiddle music, and began teaching other fiddle students by the time she was 14. By the time she embarked on her first Cross Canada tour at 16, she left behind 40 students and multiple groups that she led.
“It is my deepest hope to be able to take all my hard won knowledge and pass it on to you so that you can get to enjoying the magic that music has to offer us all.”
JASON ADAMS is the founder of New Roads Therapy and a Licensed Professional Counselor & Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP Tn License # 2860) with over 18 years of experience.
“My passion for helping others drives everything I do in life. My style is collaborative, curious, supportive, and open, but I will also challenge you to grow and face your fears. In our workshops, we will focus on practical guidance and pragmatic tools aimed to help us identify and move toward goals.”
